One of the most respected and recognized journalists in the United States, Maria Elena Salinas is a household name for 57 million Hispanics living in the U.S., and millions more in 18 countries where her work is seen. After more than three decades as co-anchor and correspondent of Noticiero Univision and co-host of news magazine “Aquí y Ahora” Salinas has begun a new chapter in her career as an independent journalist and producer. Her interviews with global figures, including every U.S. president since Jimmy Carter, as well as Latin American heads of state, rebel leaders, and influential newsmakers have earned her unparalleled respect and trust, while her commitment to empower the Latino community prompted the New York Times to call her “The Voice of Hispanic America.” During the course of her distinguished broadcasting career, Salinas has received multiple recognitions, including the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Lifetime Achievement Award, the Peabody Award, a Gracie Award for Outstanding Anchor, seven Emmy awards, a Walter Cronkite Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award, and the Outstanding Achievement Award in Hispanic Television by Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable magazines. Most recently, Salinas was recognized for her work by the National Association of Broadcasters and induced into their Hall of Fame. Salinas serves on the board of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and has been awarding scholarships to journalism students for over two decades through the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
